Allergy Friendly Halloween Foodie Treats

With Halloween fast approaching, there are a million things on the mind. With everyone prepping for the day’s festivities with costume preparation, planning out spooky parties, and of course deciding what type of candy to pass out this year–there is one important thing to consider when shopping for your favorite type of treats for the night, allergies. There are eight major food allergens including milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans. Most chocolate candy bars contain milk, eggs, peanuts, and wheat and non-chocolate candy products like Jolly Ranchers and Twizzlers can contain soy.

One out of thirteen children have a food allergy, which does cause a concern as to how many kids can actually enjoy the treats you provide. During a thriller-packed night, the last thing we want is for any kid to feel left out from the festivities such as enjoying some candy. Okay, so yes, it’s important to have options, but what sort of candy can be placed in the mix?

There are two brands that really stand out when searching for allergen-friendly sweets. First, the brand ‘Enjoy Life’ has a really great selection ranging from chocolate chips to cookies to chocolate bars and sweets in the halloween sets of the store. Another notable option is the brand Yum Earth, their candy is also allergen-free. They have lollipop options, chewable candies, and even chocolate. They have variety packs which may be the best option when it comes to handing them out on Halloween night or when hosting a boo-tacular party.

So, you’ve added some yummy new treats to your candy bucket, but how do families know that your house even has these options? That’s easy, just place a teal colored pumpkin on your porch! The color teal has been used for over twenty years to raise awareness about food-related allergies. Let’s make this a wickedly spook-tacular Halloween season by just adding a couple new sweets to the candy jar!
