Cooking With Red Wine

A glass of wine with dinner is one of our favorite ways to end the day, but did you know you can cook with wine as well? Cooking with wine is a great way to add a rich or bright flavor and some added health benefits to your favorite dish depending on what it is you’re cooking. Here are some great ways you can use wine in your next meal:

  • In a risotto
  • As a demi-glaze
  • In a soup
  • Sauteed with veggies
  • Baking in desserts
  • Poaching sauce

For a fun flavorful way to wrap up your meal try wine as the poaching liquid for your Valentine’s dessert. Here’s our favorite combo:

 How It’s Made:

In a small saucepan combine red wine, juice and zest of both lemon and orange while reserving a little for garnish. Bring to a simmer.

Peel pear.

Transfer liquid and pear to a small bowl where the pear can be fully submerged and soak for 30 minutes or until pear is pierced with a fork easily.

To plate, pour a little of the reserved liquid  in a larger bowl, place pear in the center and use an ice cream scoop to set scoop the ricotta into a ball. Garnish with chopped walnuts, mint and reserved zest.
