Green Foods We Can’t Get Enough Of

Green is an ever popular color when it comes to “dieting”. While it’s important to eat every color of the rainbow, green does have quite a bit of nutritional benefit. From beverages to frozen produce here are some of our recent favorite green foods heading into St. Patrick’s Day.

Green Tea

Green tea is primarily made up of polyphenols giving it many beneficial health green properties. These polyphenols have significant antioxidant effects in the body, which simply means this tea helps your body kill cancerous cells as well as stop harmful growth, aiding in the prevention of many different types of cancer. In population studies, green tea is believed to reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease by reducing atherosclerosis. It has also been observed to raise HDL (good cholesterol) and lower LDL (bad cholesterol). Green tea may also increase your metabolism during the day to help you burn a few extra calories.

Green Onions

Topping your chili, tacos, salads and soups this flavor enhancer is more than just a topping. New studies show that green onions have 140x more phytonutrients (plant nutrients) than white onions and are interchangeable in most dishes. One study showed that men who ate about 2 tbsp of green onions per day had a 50% lower risk of prostate cancer than those who ate no green onions.
