National Nutrition Month

National Nutrition Month is celebrated every March and focuses on adding healthy habits to your lifestyle through food and physical activity since 1973. We are all about helping you fill your grocery baskets to do just that. Whether you are shopping for yourself, a family member, or your family of 6 we have delicious and nutritious options all throughout our store to help you increase the amount of nutrition within your diet!

Here are our top 5 current favorites we’ve been loving to add more healthy habits to our 80/20 in 2020 mentality:

Our complimentary ‘Dietitian Store Tours’! Ok ok, not to brag but we have some amazing dietitians that lead grocery store tours to teach you about nutrition, answer diet and lifestyle questions, suggest products to swap/add into your meals, easy meal solutions, and so much more. Head to MarketStreetUnited.com/Tours and click your region to sign-up at a store near you!

The plate method! We once had the food pyramid and now we have MyPlate. First start by making your plate veggies first and then protein and grains. The current recommendation for fruit and vegetables in the diet is 5-9 servings so if we start there we can easily refocus our attention on the power of plants!

Roasting vegetables. Roasting vegetables may seem more like a fall and winter practice but roasting creates a delicious crunch and flavor profile to accompany any spring dish! Our current favorite is broccolini with a little bit of shaved parmesan and a squeeze of lemon juice.

Stretching our dollars a bit further with protein! We love packing in canned or dried beans into meat mixtures, soups and stews.

Two, 15 minute walks a day! One right after lunch and dinner. It helps get the food moving through the GI tract and gets us to the goal of 30 minutes of moderate physical activity per day. A winning combo all the way around.
