National Popcorn Lovers Day

It’s National popcorn lovers day and we’re here for it! Not only is popcorn one of our favorite snacks, but there are so many options to choose from. From our kernels O Organics brand to pre-popped National brands. Fun fact, this grain is over 5000 years old. Be it picking a pre-popped bag option or plain kernels there are so many flavors, textures and brands to try. But first, let’s talk about the history and nutritional value of popcorn a little bit. Microwaveable popcorn was invented back in 1982 by Pillsbury. Did you know that the kernels are 4% water and this is what makes the popcorn ‘pop’? Science is pretty cool! Now onto the tasty side of things. Popcorn is a wonderful snack and for a whopping 3 cups of plain popcorn it’s roughly 100 calories, 20 grams of carbohydrate, 4 grams of fiber, and 3 grams of protein. For our vegan friends, you can spray a little avocado oil on top and sprinkle sweet or savory seasonings on top. For our lacto-vegetarian friends (aka vegetarians who chose consume dairy products), you can melt any type of additional cheese on top for a good course of fat. You can also use popcorn as a filler in trail mixes! Any type of ‘added sugar’ like a ‘caramel corn’ is where we like to suggest sticking to a serving since added sugar is so easy to find now-a-days in products. While this popcorn has tons of pickles you won’t get that really bright pickle flavor unless you dip it in pickle juice, which then you’re left with soggy popcorn. We tried, ha! Either way, enjoy!
