Label Reading for Gluten-Free/Health Tags

Gluten-Free Label Reading

Navigating a grocery store when trying to stay healthy can oftentimes be intimidating, overwhelming and a bit tempting. That’s why our Health & Wellness team has worked to help have identified Market Street items storewide with twelve little health tags to help you create one healthier basket. Saying “no” to gluten? No problem! Our orange health tag helps you identify gluten-free products around the whole supermarket.

When looking at a food label here are the ingredients/foods to avoid: barley, bran, bulgar, chapati flour, couscous, durum, einkorn, emmer, farina, farro, hardeum, vulgare, hydrolyzed wheat, karnut, malt, maltzo, rye, seitan, spelt, semolina, tabbouleh, triticale, udan, vital wheat gluten, wheat.

Did you know gluten can be used in a plethora of products that one may not think to look at? Such as: playdough, lipsticks, tomato soup, artificial extracts, toothpaste, miso, brown rice syrup, baking powder, vitamins and supplements. Always be sure to read the labels and choose appropriately!

So let us help take the guesswork out of going gluten-free for you. If you are on a gluten free lifestyle you diet should contain fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, legumes, and gluten-free grains. It can truly be that simple at home when following the ‘My Plate’ method.
